Bullying 101 Stenulson 4 interferes with a person’s life, is about power, not sex. The behavior can include being the target of sexual comments, homophobic insults, jokes, gestures, looks, or being touched in a sexual way. Cyberbullying usually takes place off of school grounds, or out of work. Cyberbullying utilizes all of modern gadgets of life; cell phones, instant messaging, videos, e-mail, chatrooms, blogs, social networking sites such as Facebook, to threaten, insult, harass, spread rumors, and impersonate others. Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can allow bullies to remain anonymous, and go unpunished for their actions (Kaiser 1). Bullying can be placed in two categories. The categories are direct and indirect. Direct bullying is when a person is bullied openly, allowing the victim to identify their assailant. Indirect bullying is when the person doing the bullying tries to inflict harm without revealing their intention. Physical bullying is usually direct, but verbal and relational bullying, sexual harassment, and cyberbullying can be either direct or indirect (Kaiser 1).
